Really, it doesn't matter what you do. Adventure travel is something different for everyone. For some it might be visiting the Louvre or Stonehenge, for others it's extreme caving in the Magaliesburg Mountain Range, South Africa, and for others it's volunteer adventure travel.

- Post your itinerary with DFAT (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade). If you're going solo to out of the way regions let the local authorities know, and keep your family up to date always.
- Get comprehensive travel insurance and check the policy to ensure your adventure experience, or organised adventure package, is covered.
