Green Travel
Green Transport Fast Facts
- One full bus on the road carries the same number of people as 16 cars
- Emissions from road transport now constitute over 70% of all emissions of Carbon Monoxide (CO)
- Trains are the 2nd most eco friendly mode of transport after buses
- In heavy traffic jams, the air quality can be poorer inside the car than out. Car users regularly suffer up to 3 times as much pollution as pedestrians
Transport
The various types of transport you decide to use whilst on holidays will have associated environmental consequences, whether it be in terms of the energy they use, the noise and exhaust emissions they generate or the infrastructure they require.
Walking, cycling and public transport are the main forms of green travel. Taking public transport such as a train or local bus, is a much more environmentally friendly travel option. Using public transport is cost effective, there's no stress involved with rising petrol prices, parking, getting lost, the schedules are frequent and it's a great way to meet the local people and most importantly it reduces carbon emission.
In cases where there is no travel alternative to flying, you can still choose to have a positive impact on the environment. This can be done through supporting airlines prepared to invest in more energy-efficient aircraft and by offsetting your carbon emissions.
