Green Travel - Transport
Green Transport Fast Facts
- One full bus on the road carries the same number of people as 16 cars
- Emissions from road transport now constitute over 70% of all emissions of Carbon Monoxide (CO)
- Trains are the 2nd most eco friendly mode of transport after buses
- In heavy traffic jams, the air quality can be poorer inside the car than out. Car users regularly suffer up to 3 times as much pollution as pedestrians
Bus
Buses and coaches are by far the most popular form of public transport in Australia. In terms of fuel efficiency per passenger kilometre, the bus significantly outperforms the private car. In terms of congestion, a bus is a much more practical way to get around while on holiday. Travelling by bus can be a fantastic way of seeing the countryside at a slower pace than a train and for interacting with locals.
Studies have shown that one full coach has five times less CO2 emissions per passenger per kilometre than a jet aircraft on the same route, and for every full coach, there are 16 fewer cars on the road. You'll be happy to know that by travelling by bus or coach you are emitting less carbon and other harmful greenhouse gases.
