Visit the Ancient Angora and get a taste for what life was like in ancient times. Once upon a time this Angora was a popular gathering place and market where merchants sold their produce. The area was also the cultural and political hub of the city, where ideas were exchanged, debates ignited and speeches were made famous. Today a few columns and ruminants of buildings is all that is left of the Ancient Angora. Surrounding olive trees and gardens add to the angora's enchanting atmosphere, making it a popular attraction for sightseeing.

To see an operating angora in Athens, head to Athinas Street. Also known as Athens Central Market, this angora is home to fresh fish stalls, rows of olive stalls and a colourful range of fruit and vegetable markets. The best time to visit this Angora is in the morning when locals clamour to purchase the freshest produce. It may be crowded and noisy, but the energy is what makes this market such a special Athens experience.

After working up an appetite while browsing the angora, head to one of the eateries in the meat market for an authentic Greek meal eaten alongside locals.
