Performing arts enthusiasts will appreciate the variety of entertainment options available to choose in the Dutch capital. De Nederlandse Opera is the country’s primary opera company and stages many innovative interpretations of classic works. The performances are staged in the Amsterdam Music Theatre and the company regularly performs to capacity houses. Arguably, the most noted production in recent years was Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen.
If you prefer ballet, then consider attending a performance of the Dutch National Ballet. In 1986 the company formerly took up residence in the Amsterdam Music Theatre and offer over 70 performances throughout the year. Since their founding in 1961, the Dutch National Ballet have performed ballet classics and innovative twentieth century works.
For a change of pace from Amsterdam, take the train to Maastricht, a quaint town in the country’s south.
