Travellers looking to experience a glimpse of local life should head to Sachsenhausen, found opposite the Römerberg precinct, on the other side of the river. This old suburb is known as the ebble woi quarter. Ebble woi translates to apple wine, a popular drink in Frankfurt that is pressed from a particular type of apple. Within Sachsenhausen’s cobblestone lanes are a number of apple wine pubs including Zum gemalten Haus, a favourite local haunt. Walk along the area’s main street of Schweizer Straße and browse the boutiques and bars. Tempted to stay a little longer? Sachsenhausen is also one of Frankfurt’s most popular nightlife hubs.
Back in the city you will see many invest bankers and stock brokers on their way to work. While you might not be able to see where the mega bucks are made, you can always view it from above. The Main Tower is one of the only buildings in Frankfurt open to the public. Named after the river Main, the tower has five underground floors and two viewing platforms. Head to the public viewing platform at the top of the tower for spectacular 200 metre high views of Frankfurt and the hills of the Taunus.

Frankfurt Airport is the main airport of Frankfurt, located 12km from the CBD. Direct flights from Australia to Frankfurt generally take between 15 to 22 hours, depending on the departure destination and stopover. Trains, public buses and shuttles perform airport transfers regularly.
