Sitting majestically on a small islet at the entrance of the Bosphorus, the Maiden’s Tower was constructed in 408BCE to allow easy navigation of ships through the waterway. Over the centuries, the structure has undergone renovations, the most significant being under the Byzantine emperor, Alexius Comnenus in 1110CE. Today the tower makes a wonderful excursion to experience the incredible views across to the city. Take the trip around lunch time and enjoy a meal in the popular restaurant on this incredible ancient structure.
Construction on an aqueduct to deliver water to Constantinople began under Emperor Hadrian but was significantly expanded under the rule of Emperor Valens. The Valens Aqueduct stretched for almost one kilometre with a height of around 29 metres when it was completed in 368CE. Today sections of the aqueduct stand proud as a reminder of past eras.
Also consider admiring the Column of Constantine, erected in 330CE.

Istanbul Ataturk Airport, 24km from the centre, is the city’s principle airport. Flights from Australia to Istanbul generally take between 19 and 22 hours, depending on connections. There are bus and train connections to central Istanbul.
