For those interested in remnants of the colonial period, consider admiring the Kota Intan Bridge or the Diamond City Hanging Bridge. The structure was originally built in 1628 by the Dutch to connect the West Kali Besar and the East Kali Besar. Interestingly, the bridge was constructed with a leverage system so that ships could pass through unobstructed.
A great family attraction is the Ragunan Zoo, located in the south of the city. Opened in 1864, the zoo currently houses over 3000 animals amongst 270 species. The big ticket attractions include the komodo dragons, Sumatran elephants, orang-utans and Sumatran tigers. For the younger kids, there’s a dedicated Children’s Zoo.
Also contemplate investigating the Puppet Museum, which offers a fascinating insight into this typically Indonesian art form.
