A quick skim of the islands' offerings make it easy to see why honeymooners and couples delight in this part of the Pacific but don't be put off if you're travelling solo, there's much to appreciate. Aitutaki has the often-photographed azure lagoon; the third-largest of the Cook Islands is Atiu, known for its beaches and caves. One of the oldest islands in the Pacific (at 10 million years) is Mangaia, and Palmerston Atoll is home to a wealth of wildlife, including birds, turtles, dolphins, whales and coconut crabs.

Watersports are usually top of the list of activities – with good reason – but the wonderful part is you don't have to do anything. In fact, it's pretty much mandatory to spend a portion of your time just lying in a hammock.
