Tiger Airways Australia
Tiger Airways Australia, a Singapore based subsidiary of Tiger Aviation, is a low cost airline currently servicing the Australian domestic market. Based in Melbourne, Tiger Airways Australia commenced its inaugural flight on 23 November 2007, and now operates over 100 flights a week.
Currently, Tiger Airways Australia flies to 12 destinations from its main hub at Melbourne Airport including Adelaide, Alice Springs, Canberra, Darwin, Gold Coast, Hobart, Launceston, Mackay, Newcastle, Perth, Rockhampton and the Sunshine Coast.
Tiger Airways currently operates four Airbus A320 aircraft, with plans to integrate two Airbus A319 aircraft into its fleet by the end of 2008. The expected diversity of Tiger Airways increased fleet will allow the airline to expand its current flight routes and include destinations which are currently inaccessible.
The incorporation of Tiger Airways Australia into the Australian low-cost carrier market has seen market competitors such as Jetstar Airways and Virgin Blue take action; launching various special offers and other promotions to entice customers to stay with the airline.
On May 31 2008, following a similar approach to most other overseas and local low-cost airlines, Tiger Airways Australia has adopted a policy of charging its passengers a fee for check-in luggage. This fee can vary between $5 for customers who pay up-front and $20 for customers who pay upon check-in.
It seems the sky's the limit in this increasingly competitive market, with Tiger Airways Australia aiming to service around 2 million passengers each year.
