Visit Brazil Without A Visa During The Rio Olympics

Get ready to samba to the Summer Olympics sans a visa! Brazil has just announced a temporary visa-waiver program to allow Australians to visit the South American country without a visa for up to 90 days during the Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games, to be hosted in Rio de Janeiro.

US, Canadian and Japanese passport holders will also be able to take advantage of the temporary visa-waiver program, which runs from June 1 to September 18, 2016.

Australians travelling to Brazil are usually required to obtain a visa before departure, however Aussies arriving in Brazil for tourist purposes between June 1 and September 18 this year will be exempt from a visa for stays of up to 90 days – a saving of $63, according to the Embassy of Brazil in Canberra website.

Travellers will still need to ensure they are visiting Brazil on a passport with at least six months’ validity and also be able to show proof of funds, accommodation and onward or return flights to present to immigration officials on arrival.

Aussie tourists visiting Brazil outside the lead-up to the Summer Olympics (August 5 to 21) and the conclusion of the Paralympics (September 7 to 18) as per the specified visa-waiver dates will still need to apply for a visa before departure. Currently, applications for Brazilian visas can take 15 days or longer and cost $AUD 63 per passport.
