Argentina Travel Guide

Holiday Planning Guide, Locations and Travel Information throughout Argentina

On the south east of the great continent of South America is Argentina. It is a vast land and covers an area about a third of the size of the USA, making it the second biggest country in South America after Brazil. The coastline borders the Atlantic Ocean and stretches all the way to the icy waters of the most southerly parts of the South American continent. Argentina also has some impressive mountains including the Cerro Aconcagua at almost 7000 metres, vast salt flats, dense forests, deserts and wetlands.

The name Argentina is actually from the latin for silver - 'Argentum'. This is of course what the Spanish were after when they arrived in the early 1700's. After a long period under Spanish rule Argentina became it's own nation in 1816. Since that time the country has had some periods of instability, both political and financial, but today it is a healthy democracy and has undergone economic recovery since 2006.

Argentina is a fantastic destination for travellers, it has a heady mixture of the rich and vibrant culture of Buenos Aires and the natural wonders which are present throughout the rest of the country.

Buenos Aires, is both the capital and cultural pulse of Argentina, it has a south american take on European culture with a ram-shackle amalgam of restaurants, architecture, shopping and everyday life. The people are full of life energy, they love to eat, converse, dance and celebrate making them one of the best attractions to visit the city.

As for natural beauty, Argentina has been blessed. Some of the many key attractions include the Iberia Wetlands - a natural reserve covering a huge area and rich in flora and fauna. The Iguaza Falls is another of it's jewels, a truly astonishing site which has been said to top Niagra Falls on the spectacular scale. Also on the list should be the Glaciers National Park, and El Calafate and the amazing Perito Moreno Glacier. Of course the the mighty Andes mountain range traverses the country as part of it's path through South America, and Argentina is the site of many of it's highest peaks.

Argentina will capture your imagination and your spirit, it's a place where you will remember that life is to be lived.
