Alice Springs Desert Park Information

A must see for every visitor to Alice.

In the space of just a few hours, you can discover many of the secrets of the Central Australian deserts at the Alice Springs Desert Park. Hundreds of the species of plants and animals found across Central Australian deserts can be seen, smelt and heard at the Desert Park. You will even have the opportunity to experience desert habitats as they are at night, seeing some of the animals near impossible to see in the wild.

Take an easy walking trail through three desert habitats and discover Desert Rivers, Sand Country and the Woodland Habitat, witness free-flying birds of prey in the nature theatre, see rare and endangered animals in the spectacular nocturnal house and take a cinematic journey through four and a half billion years of desert evolution.

The stories of the plants and animals of the desert are shared through interpretative displays, daily guide presentations, audio guides in four languages, movie and DVD displays. Professional guides, including local indigenous people, share Central Australia stories including insights into the interlinking worlds of plants, animals and people.

You will be able to witness the spectacular Nature Theatre presentation where birds of prey demonstrate natural survival skills and, learn about four and a half billion years of this planet’s creation, featuring the Australian deserts, during the 20 minute cinematic journey of 'The Changing Heart'.

When you leave the Desert Park you will go away with new stories, skills and some of the secrets of the desert. You will never look at deserts the same way again.

The park is just 10 minutes drive from the centre of town on Larapinta Drive.
