Start your day with a casual walk along any of the classic white sandy beaches or take a dip in the refreshing waters of the Pacific Ocean. Walk out towards Batehaven and Sunshine Bay then wander back towards the estuary. You might like to go snorkelling or surfing off the beach or kayaking and boating in the river or the bay. There are plenty of places to hire the equipment you need for these activities.
A seafood lunch is a great option and there are lots of restaurants to choose from along the water line. Try the world famous juicy Clyde River oysters or get stuck into some of the other local seafood. There are plenty of cafes with a wide variety of food, catering for all budgets. Take a boat either out towards the Tollgate Islands for a chance to see some dolphins and even penguins, or up the Clyde river towards Nelligen for one of Australia’s most scenic river cruises.
If you want to immerse yourself in nature, Pigeon House Mountain is an easy one hour drive north west of Batemans Bay and has a range of walking trails to suit all levels of bush walkers. You can drive through scenic eucalyptus forests in and around the region. If climbing the mountain, be sure to look back towards the beach for a great view, or if you’re an early starter, try to make if up for the amazing sunrise over the water and the coast below.
Batemans Bay is located 4 hours south of Sydney, on the Pacific Highway and about 2 hours east of Canberra. Driving is your best option from both those regions however coaches do run out of Sydney and Canberra.
