1. Enjoy modern cultural experiences.
Visit Brisbane's cultural precinct at South Brisbane and take in Queensland's newest addition, the cutting-edge Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA). The gallery, which opened in December 2006, complements the Queensland Art Gallery building. It focuses on the art of the 20th and 21 st centuries and incorporates Asia-Pacific and Indigenous art. While you're there, why not catch a show at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre or see the dynamic exhibitions at the Queensland Museum? Sure to please.

2. Admire City Hall's elegance
Brisbane City Hall is a charming mix of art deco and neo-classical architecture packed with beautiful details and features. Take in the city views from the observation deck in the clock tower and see the magnificent clock (4.8 metres in diameter), which has recently been restored. The three-storey building holds a circular concert hall, with impressive gallery seating and great acoustics.

3. Relax in green spaces
Explore the lush parks and gardens amid the urban glass, stone and concrete. Take time out in the 150-year-old City Botanic Gardens or in Roma Street Parkland, the world's largest sub-tropical garden in a city centre. See New Farm Park cloaked in purple during jacaranda season in spring.

4 . Take the CityCat
For something different, see the city from a river perspective aboard a CityCat: a practical and extremely pleasant way to get around. With the wind in your hair, head downstream to New Farm Park and Brett's Wharf, or venture upstream past the Regatta to the University of Queensland at St Lucia.

5. Cuddle a koala
See Australia's unique fauna at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary at Fig Tree Pocket. A Brisbane institution since 1927, generations of children still remember coming here on a school excursion to meet and cuddle their first koala.

6. Take a trip to Moreton Island
The stunning natural beauty of Moreton Island is just a short boat ride away from Brisbane. Enjoy four-wheel driving tours, walks through natural bushland, sandboarding down massive sand dunes and hand-feeding wild dolphins.

8. Soak up South Bank
South Bank is 16 magnificent hectares of parkland right in the city centre. It has an inner-city beach, a refreshing lagoon, cafés, restaurants, pubs, a bougainvillea-draped arbour, cycling and walking paths, markets, concerts, the list goes on ...

9. Shop, shop, shop!
Shop your heart out in the Queen Street Mall, Fortitude Valley, James Street, the Emporium or the multitude of boutiques situated throughout the city and suburbs. Or visit large suburban shopping centres and a variety of markets that spring up on weekends all over the city.

10. Head for the hills
For a quiet and relaxed experience, take a leisurely drive through Brisbane Forest Park to Mount Nebo or Mount Glorious.
