Catch a movie at the historic Hoyts Regent Cinema in the Queen Street Mall; roll the dice at the Conrad Treasury Casino; then celebrate with some retail therapy in the many outlets in the Queen Street Mall. Cross the river and take in a performance at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, see the latest exhibitions at the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) or head down to the Powerhouse in New Farm for avant-garde events. Relax under a shady Moreton Bay Fig in the City Botanic Gardens, or chill out at Roma Street Parkland – the world's largest sub-tropical garden in a city centre. Venture to South Bank's restaurants and bars with river and city views, lush parklands and a purpose-built lagoon with its own beach. Take a walking tour along the city's heritage trail and explore Brisbane's history.
When it's time to eat, check out the variety in the city centre or South Bank, or head to Chinatown in Fortitude Valley for the best yum cha around. For fine dining, try e'cco, Ibis or Urbane. Small communities such as Paddington, New Farm and Bulimba, have developed distinct characteristics that provide a vibrant village ambience. Just across the river from the CBD, West End is a bohemian pocket sporting a wide variety of cafes. Weekend markets are a must-do in Brisbane, with the long-established Riverside Markets taking centre stage in the city on Sundays and on Saturdays the Valley markets or the West End markets are a bower birds' delight.
