Queensland Information
Queensland, Australia's long time favourite holiday destination is affectionately known as the sunshine state. It's a huge state which is full of diversity, old rain forests, hundreds of surf beaches, tropical islands and modern cities. It's capital, Brisbane is a modern and thriving city perfectly situated between coastal regions to it's north and south and with it's very own Moreton Bay. Out west Queensland is also home to some of the countries most iconic outback towns, Longreach, the birthplace of Qantas, Quilpie, Mt Isa, Thargomindah are just a few most aussies would know. So, Queensland is much more than just the Great Barrier Reef and the Gold Coast, check it out next time you are due for a holiday and be amazed by how much is on offer.
Brisbane swings with energy, style arts and culture. The mighty Brisbane River snakes through the suburbs and the CBD before heading to the bay. It's the lifeblood of Brissie with outdoor dining, Southbank and the cultural centre on it's banks. By night, there is heaps to find both in the city and out in the leafy inner city suburbs, where some of Australia's most innovative dining can be found as well as plenty of night life.
Not far from Brisbane is the Gold Coast just to the south and to the north is the Sunshine Coast. Both of these are among the finest coastal holiday strips in the country, with scores of excellent surf beaches and gorgeous hinterland areas. The Gold Coast is more glitz and glamour than the Sunshine Coast which is more of a laid back feel, both offer plenty of variety of accommodation, eating out and every amenity you could want for a perfect getaway;.
Another hour or two north of the Sunshine Coast is World Heritage listed Fraser Island. The worlds largest sand island, Fraser is a miracle of nature which attracts visitors from around the world. Fresh water lakes perch among rain-forests with perfect white beaches surrounding them. Travel on the island is by 4WD only and there are only a few settlements on the island so it is possible to get right away from it all.

The Great Barrier Reef is another of Queenslands jewels and a natural wonder of the world. The reef lies along an astonishing 2000km of the coast and includes many islands that host resorts and national parks. It's huge population of marine life, corals and bird species are a wonder to behold. There are dozens and dozens of islands all along the coast where visitors can enjoy the reef and surrounding waters up close. One of the best is the Whitsundays region, where emerald clad islands sit among pristine waterways and the reefs can be enjoyed by simply walking into the water for a snorkel in many areas.
In the north of the state the Tropics are the main gateway to the reef and also boast massive rainforest areas, known as the wet tropics. It is one of the key tourism areas of Australia, and attracts millions each year who come to see the reef, wild gorges, crocodiles and quaint townships. All this is well services by a thriving touris trade which has excellent accommodation choices from backpackers right through to the best of five star luxury and eco-tourism resorts.
The outback could not be more different. It's a dry and wide land, a beautiful desert landscape dotted with outback towns where you are bound to run into a few aussie characters, especially if you drop into one of the iconic outback pubs. It's a great region to enjoy learning of some of Australia's heritage, from the formation of Qantas in Longreach and the beginings of the labour movement in Barcaldine. Follow in the footsteps of dinosaurs in Richmond or tour and underground mine in Mt Isa.
So, you get the picture. Queensland is not just a great place for a holiday, you will likely need ten just to get started.
