Strolling around the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House, you will be blown away by the views of Sydney Harbour, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, just across the water. If you want a closer look at the inner workings of the Opera House, joining one of the many guided tours throughout the day is a great option. A long lunch at any of the superb restaurants, cafes and local pubs along the East Circular Quay promenade sets up a perfect afternoon for watching the sun set behind the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
For a magnificent photo opportunity, you might like to walk along the waterside path from the Opera House through the adjacent Botanic Gardens, around Farm Cove to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair (about a 20 minute stroll). From there, look back at the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
When the sun sets, the Sydney Opera House’s beauty reaches another level. Regularly lit up, during festivals throughout the year, there is no better time to experience the magic of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney’s spectacular harbour. A chance to experience New Year’s Eve here would certainly be something to remember.
The Opera House is also one of the world’s premier performance venues. Performances range from theatre, opera and ballet to pop and electronic music and run all year round. It is best to check out what’s on and make bookings through the Sydney Opera House in advance.
There is an Opera House car park with an hourly rate during the day and a flat evening rate. The traffic getting out of the car park can be pretty slow after a big show so you might think about walking or taking a taxi or other public transport, particularly if it’s a nice evening.
