All visitors to Australia are required to have a valid passport and must have either a visa or an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) to enter the country. The ETA is an electronic (paperless) visa allowing eligible travellers to stay in the country for up to three months for tourism or business purposes. ETAs are obtainable from travel agents or online at: www.eta.immi.gov.au. Anyone who overstays their visa or ETA while in Australia risks detention, exclusion or removal from the country.
Citizens of New Zealand or travellers in transit for less then eight hours do not require a visa. New Zealand nationals are required to fill out a passenger card on arrival in Australia and will then be issued with a Special Category Visa (SCV).
Departure Tax for Australia is $A38 per person and is usually included in your airline ticket. Exemptions apply to children under 12 years and passengers in transit for less than 24 hours. Also usually included in your ticket are various government, airport, sea and local taxes.
There are some strict requirements for entry into Australia so please check the official government website to ensure you fulfill all the requirements.
