Taking up a huge chunk of the South American Continent, Brazil is the continents largest country by far and is in fact the fifth largest in the world. 

Brazil has captivated many travellers with its stunning white sand beaches lined with palm trees and an incredible coastline that extends more than 7000km with tropical islands and captivating colonial towns. Venture inland into Brazil and you will find towering rock canyons, plunging waterfalls and cool clear rivers.

Brazil’s most famous natural attraction is of course the immense Amazon Rainforest, known as the lungs of the planet. The area is one of the world's richest bio-habitats with literally millions of insect, plant, animal, fish and birdlife species. The country is also the place to see a good waterfall or twol Do not miss the incredible Iguacu Falls, one of the worlds most spectacular, but there are plenty of others too including the Cachoeira da Fumaca, the Caracol Falls and the easily reached Itaquira Falls near tothe town of Formosa. On the other extreme from the spectacular plunging falls is the vast wetlands of the Pantanal, an area of almost 200,000 square kilometres which nourishes an incredible diversity of plants and animals. There is also the Chapada Diamantina with amazing canyons and caves and the colourful old gold-mining towns in the mountains of Minas Gerais. The whole country is an adventurers paradise with not just unbeatable trekking and wildlife watching but also huge opportunities for adventure sports ranging from rafting, trekking, kayaking, snorkelling and surfing. 

Of course Brazil is also home to one of the worlds most celebrated cities - Rio de Janeiro. Situated in a spectacular setting between towering peaks, white beaches and verdant jungle, Rio defies the imagination. Watched over by the famous statue of Christ, Rio's residents know how to party and how to live, surf beaches, hill walks and an ourdoor cafe scene to rival any on earth, the locals lap it all up in style. Of course the biggest party of them all is Carnival which is feted throughout Brazil and showcases the country’s love of life and celebratory spirit with Rio de Janeiro and Salvador perfect places to join in the mayhem.

The population of Brazil includes indigenous people, descendants of slaves from Africa and the offspring of European immigrants. After 20 years of democracy, the country has grown strong despite the social problems of the unequal income distribution. The people are happy and festive which is reflected in the food, architecture, music and culture of Brazil making this country an unforgettable place to visit.
