Piccadilly Circus Information

Located in the artsy West End of London, Piccadilly Circus is a junction of Regent Street, Piccadilly Street and Shaftesbury Avenue and is the vibrant hub of the West End shopping district. The large paved public space in the middle of Piccadilly Circus is a popular meeting spot and no matter what time of day you visit there will be crowds milling around and sitting on the steps of the Memorial Fountain.

Probably the most notable feature of the Circus are the massive electronic billboards on one of the adjacent buildings which has the largest electronic advertising sign in the world that actually curves around the building. The billboards in Piccadilly Circus have made cameo appearances in dozens of movies over the years and are instantly recognisable. They are at their most vibrant when viewed at night time when the colours and lights are richest.

Another iconic feature in the Circus is the Shaftesbury Monument Memorial Fountain with a statue of Eros (or Cupid) on top complete with drawn bow. This statue commemorates the philanthropic works of Lord Shaftesbury in the late nineteenth century and was moved to it's present location after World War Two. It is now a well known spot to meet up with friends when visiting the area.

Across from the Circus is the London Trocadero - a huge six storied amusement arcade catering mostly to youngsters - containing video game arcades and many small shops and stalls. There are also many souvenir stands and shops, large and small, lining the streets around the Circus and regardless of the time of day the streets are filled with thousands of shoppers.

Traffic around the Circus is always busy so be mindful of the crossing signals, and also be alert for pickpockets as they target unsuspecting tourists.

At the Haymarket end of Piccadilly Circus is the Horse of Helios statue which is another famous attraction and a popular place to meet, and just a short stroll from the Circus you'll find the Haymarket, Leicester Square and Chinatown.
