INDEX OF ALL regions AND LOCATIONSVisa & Entry Requirements
All travellers entering Ireland need a passport valid for the length of their stay, but it is recommended to have at least six months validity from the date of your return. Citizens from many countries do not require a visa to enter Ireland for stays of up to three months. This list includes Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United Kingdom and the United States of America.
Citizens requiring a visa to enter Ireland should contact their local Irish Embassy or Consulate prior to travelling to the Republic of Ireland, and visitors to Northern Ireland should contact their local British Embassy or High Commission or Consular Office. Visas cannot be issued in Ireland so you must hold one before entry if required to do so.
Please be aware that Ireland is not a signatory to the Schengen Convention so a schengen visa is not valid for entry into Ireland.
There is a 10 euro airport departure tax when you leave Ireland. Children under the age of two who do not occupy a seat on the aircraft, and transit and transfer passengers, are exempt from this tax.
As entry requirements may change from time to time it is strongly advised that you check with the department of foreign affairs or your local consulate or embassy for the current requirements.

We strongly advise that all Australian travellers check the latest travel advice on the Australian Government Smart Traveller site.
