When entering Malta, visitors from non-EU countries are permitted the following duty-free allowances: 250gm of tobacco or 50 cigars or 200 cigarettes; 2 litres of liquor; 60ml of perfume and 250ml of eau de toilette. When entering from another EU country, these limits increase to 1kg of tobacco or 800 cigarettes or 200 cigars and 10 litres of liquor. Prohibited items include firearms and ammunition, illegal drugs, pornography, plant and meat products and counterfeit goods. Cash amounts, including cheques, travellers cheques and money orders that exceed €10000 must be declared to customs officials and it is also advisable to declare any electrical items to avoid duty being applied when leaving Malta.
