Enjoying a mild Mediterranean climate, any time of year is a good time to visit, but make sure you set aside plenty of time because there is so much to see and do. In the Downtown area, you can visit the fabulous Museum of Contemporary Art, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and see the Frank Gehry architectural masterpiece, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, which is a stunning addition to the city’s landscape and home to the LA Philharmonic orchestra. If you travel northeast you will discover Pasadena, located in the San Gabriel Valley, where two outstanding museums, the Huntington and the Norton Simon are found.

For those interested in Hollywood iconography, a visit to Grauman’s Chinese Theatre is essential, where fans can see their favourite stars’ hand or footprints in the famous forecourt. The famous Hollywood sign is only visible from a distance as it is located on a steep hill near Griffith Park, well worth visiting as it offers panoramic views of the entire city. It also contains the Griffith Observatory which was built in 1935 and is a popular tourist destination partly because of its dramatic views, but also due to its extensive science and space exhibits. For some glitz and glamour, visitors can head to Beverly Hills in West Hollywood to visit Sunset Boulevard and Rodeo Drive and do some serious credit card damage in the plethora of designer stores and fine restaurants.

No visit to Los Angeles is complete without a trip to Disneyland regardless of whether or not you have children in tow. Located southeast of Downtown, in Anaheim, it has hosted over 450 million visitors since it was first opened in 1955. The home of Mickey Mouse, this original Disney theme park lives up to its reputation as the “Happiest Place on Earth” with its blend of old and new attractions with something to suit the whole family.
