Attractions Near the Best Western Elkira Motel

Olive Pink Botanic Garden

A leisurely meander along the garden pathways will take you past 600 Central Australian plant species, 145 of which are rare or threatened. Wander further along the network of trails and you’ll find yourself on top of Annie Myers Hill, which has spectacular views over the town, Todd River and MacDonnell Ranges.

Bring your binoculars if you’re into birdwatching, as more than 80 species of birds know the Olive Pink Botanic Garden as home. The Bean Tree Cafe serves home-style fare between 8am and 4pm and is the perfect place to relax to the sounds and antics of local birdlife.

Araluen Arts Centre

This modern centre is the focal point of the Alice Springs performing and visual arts scene. It was designed around a 300-year-old corkwood tree considered sacred by the Indigenous Arrernte people. The Albert Namatjira Gallery inside displays not only the work of this famous artist – his sought-after watercolours continue to be displayed around Australia and internationally – but also Namatjira’s talented descendants and contemporaries.

The gallery space houses other works of significance to the people of Central Australia, including quilting exhibitions, sculptural lighting installations and portraits of senior Territorians. The on-site cinema shows art-house films from Australia and abroad.
