Visit the Royal Flying Doctors

The Royal Flying Doctor Service has come a long way since its first flight in 1928. Now, 63 aircraft undertake about 75,000 flights annually and treat an average of 809 patients every day across remote Australia.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service Museum is located in the original Radio Station House in Alice Springs and is a fascinating window into how the service reached and treated patients over the decades. The newly redeveloped Royal Flying Doctor Service Tourist Facility has a 70-seat theatre, interactive displays and a cafe.

Indigenous Australian art gallery

Alice Springs Resort is a short 10-minute walk from town, so be sure to browse the many artworks on display at the Albert Namatjira Gallery. The gallery is named after a highly regarded Indigenous artist who pioneered modern Indigenous art and painted more than 2,000 outback landscapes, some of which have been displayed at the National Gallery of Australia and in international galleries.

The gallery features a rotating selection of Albert Namatjira’s paintings as well as Indigenous art from his descendants and contemporaries in Central Australia and beyond. The gallery is housed in the Araluen Arts Centre, designed around a 300-year-old corkwood tree, which the Arrernte people consider sacred.
