Attractions near the Mercure Kangaroo Island Lodge

Meet the endangered Australian sea lions

A 50-minute drive from your hotel is the Seal Bay Conservation Park, one of Kangaroo Island’s most popular tourist attractions and home to the endangered Australian sea lion. Take a self-guided tour along the 800-metre boardwalk through limestone cliffs and sand dunes. Stop off at the viewing platforms and watch the sea lions in their natural habitat, sunbaking on the beach or surfing the waves.

If you'd prefer to get up close, guided tours are available. You’ll have the opportunity to venture onto the beach and into the heart of the colony to see these endangered animals interacting and socialising.

Experience Australia’s exciting birdlife

Spend a little time in Seal Bay and visit the Raptor Domain located on Seal Bay Road, just a few minutes’ drive from the Seal Bay Conservation Park. During an educational and exciting live show, you’ll see a number of Australian native birds of prey including the barn owl, kookaburra, hobby falcon, kestrel, tawny frogmouth and magnificent wedge-tailed eagle.

The award-winning ‘in-flight’ display is the only show of its kind in South Australia and offers tourists the opportunity to see powerful birds of prey in action. Reptile presentations featuring native lizards and snakes are also available. Bring your own picnic or dine at the on-site cafe.
