Charming, boutique and central, this hidden gem is set in a quiet area one-minute on foot from a stroll along Prinsengracht canal. Here old-world charm and the modern day meet where funky rooms are housed in former 17th-century weaver’s houses, and the option of breakfast in bed is the perfect way to start the day and the relaxing bar a great way to end it. Museumplein’s Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum are less than 10 minutes on foot, the tram is 350 metres away and Anne Frank House and Dam Square are a 20-minutes wander.

What was once poor is now prosperous

The area of Jordaan is a curious one, beginning as a poor neighbourhood and becoming one of Amsterdam’s most extravagant places. You can walk there from the hotel and once you enter Jordaan you’ll notice a distinct change in your environment. The canals and green areas are still present, but there are a lot more high-end shops, restaurants and hotels.

You can easily spend a few hours browsing through the designer-brand stores and boutique shops, but you may also want to designate some time to the art galleries, restaurants and bars. Markets are also often held in and around Jordaan.

The famous painter

A little less than two kilometres from the hotel is the Rambrandt House Museum, where the famous Dutch painter lived and worked for a number of years. There are two stages to the Museum: the actual 17th-Century house, which has been designed to accurately show how Rambrandt lived; and the collection of Rambrandt’s work in an adjacent building.

You can take a guided tour through the home and studio to learn more about the artist’s life and work, or you can explore the collection at your own pace. There are also etching and paint preparation demonstrations held daily that are quite informative.
