Wander through Bangalore’s Cubbon Park
Covering a whopping 101 hectares, Cubbon Park is easily one of the biggest parks in Bangalore. It was opened in 1870 and is named after the longest serving commissioner of the time, Mark Cubbon. Home to some of the city’s iconic landmarks, the Park is popular with locals and tourists alike.
The State Archaeological Museum is located within its grounds, along with Seshadri Iyer Memorial Hall, which houses the city library. Many of the statues in the park hark back to the days when India was under British rule. A statue of Queen Victoria from 1906 sits near the Mahatma Ghandi Circle, a statue of King Edward VII from 1919 sits in Queen’s Park, and a statue of the park’s founder, Major General Sir Mark Cubbon, is located near the terrace garden.
A classic Bangalore experience
A short stroll from the hotel is the Indira Ghandi Musical Fountain, which is located on Raj Bhavan Road. Every evening when the sun goes down a light and music show is played near the Fountain, while locals and tourists gather to watch.
Sundays are especially busy, with families and children congregating to enjoy the show and clap along. This is a lovely spot to enjoy a little local tradition, and to mix and mingle with the people who call this city home.
