Bangkok’s best-kept vintage secret
If vintage shopping sparks your interest, there is one place you must visit in Bangkok – the Papaya Vintage Shop. Located in an inconspicuous warehouse in the suburbs of Bangkok, this labyrinth of rooms holds countless gems just waiting to be rediscovered.
Utterly unique, Papaya will slowly reveal its treasures as you weave through the rooms. With old costumes, clothes, furniture and an impressive collection of Darth Vader and Ultraman figures, there is something from everyone’s childhood hidden in here.
Atop the Golden Mount
A short bus ride from your hotel is the Wat Saket temple, built upon a man-made hill known as the Golden Mount. During the week-long worshipping period each November, the landmark is a sacred pilgrimage for Thais, but visitors are welcome to climb it year round.
To reach the top there are more than 300 steps, well worth climbing for the panoramic views of surrounding Bangkok city. The temple below, which dates back to the Ayutthaya period (1350-1767) houses a Buddha relic, and the grounds also feature gardens with a chapel, ordination hall and library.
