Tour the ancient Roman baths
Bath has been the site of culturally significant hot springs for many centuries and you can see some of this grand history displayed at the city’s Roman baths. The first baths were actually built in Bath before the Romans, by the British King Bladud in 836 BC. When the Romans occupied Britain, they set up a stone chamber around the baths and added their traditional three chambers: the caldarium (hot), tepidarium (warm), and frigidarium (cold).
Today you can tour the baths, which are set below the current street level. There's also a museum holding relics found in the spring including many coins and bather's curses, some of which were used to curse anyone who stole their clothes while bathing.
Make and do all day
Craft-crazy holidaymakers will love The Makery, which offers a huge variety of craft-oriented workshops geared towards both kids and adults. You can try your hand at needlework such as embroidery, knitting and crochet. Learn how to reupholster furniture, redo old pieces with a shabby chic look, or make your own notebook cover or clasp purse. The more ambitious can find out how to print wallpaper.
The numerous offerings for children include workshops to make a cute fox or rabbit cushion, a pencil case or a sock monster. At The Makery you’ll be entertained and educated, and possibly end up with a wonderful souvenir as well.
