Fragrant Hills Park

A spectacular natural sanctuary can be found 28 kilometres northwest of central Beijing. You can swap the speed of the city for a day of exploring the nearly 162 hectares of picturesque gardens in the Fragrant Hills Park. First built in 1186 during the Jin dynasty, Fragrant Hills Park has since been extended and built upon over the centuries.

Taking the cable car is a great way to truly appreciate the area, which features highlights such as Spectacles Lake, Bright Temple and Incense Burner Peak; the highest peak in the Park. The Park is also known as one of the best places to witness the red leaves of autumn.

Meandering through the markets

Markets are a central aspect of local Beijing life, where people buy their food, drink, clothing and more. It's easy to join in on the exciting market atmosphere by visiting some of the city’s most popular commerce hubs.

The Silk Market and Pearl Market are the most popular with tourists for their sheer size and potential for bargains. The Alien’s Street Market, otherwise known as the 'Russian Market', is much smaller, with a greater variation of quality and price. The Panjiayuan Market is the largest market selling used goods in the country and the stalls are filled with antiques, crafts, collectibles and decorations.
