Beijing Capital Museum

Covering over 63,000 square metres and focused on Chinese history and culture, the Beijing Capital Museum provides valuable insight into this interesting country. It's a relatively new museum, as the collection of Chinese relics was started in 1953 and opened to the public in 1981.

With a central portion of its exhibition focused on relics unearthed in Beijing, the Museum demonstrates an interesting history told through thousands of objects, some of which date back to the New Stone Age. Items include bronze, porcelain ware, calligraphy, paintings, coins and needlework. There is also an impressive collection of Buddhist statues.

Local culture on Qianmen Street

Qianmen Street is an important part of Beijing’s history and an example of local culture. The 840-metre-long pedestrian street is located in the centre of the city, close to other attractions such as Tiananmen Square, the Temple of Heaven and the Forbidden City.

Qianmen Street was a central part of local life, once lined with traditional shops such as a meat market, cloth market and jewellery market. Today, the street is home to many international brands and the famous Quanjude restaurant, open since 1864.
