Attractions near the St Regis Beijing

A heavenly place

Visit a beautiful place where ancient emperors once held heaven worship ceremonies. The Temple of Heaven, located in the Chongwen district of Beijing, is the country’s largest sacrificial building. The Temple of Heaven covers an area of over 2.7 million square metres, making it larger than the Forbidden City. Its size is evidence of the rule that emperors were forbidden from having a personal residence larger than any buildings dedicated to heaven.

Such a grandiose size means that multiple touring routes are possible. Make sure you don’t miss out on the Circular Mound Altar, Imperial Vault of Heaven or the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, which are all unique and equally impressive.

Exotic shopping

Beijing might be a city of history, heavenly temples and technology hubs, but shopping is also one of its highlights. One of the most famous shopping areas and a definite must-see is the neon-lit pedestrian street of Wangfujing. Here you can find international brands, foreign-language bookstores and the best of local and foreign restaurants.

For something a little more traditional, be sure to take a trip to the Silk Market or Pearl Market, where the stores and bartering atmosphere depict the essence of local commerce in Beijing.
