For the history buff
Bogota's La Candelaria is the first stop on many itineraries thanks to its blend of Spanish Colonial, Baroque and Art Deco architecture. Historic churches stand next to trendy restaurants and museums along with a fantastic collection of hotels, making it a one stop shop for local culture and history.
The majority of hotels are smaller boutiques, such as the Orchids Hotel and Abadia Colonial. Both provide a comfortable stay close to La Candelaria and the Gold Museum. While pricing is generally very reasonable across the board, you can still cut costs with a stay in one of the many available hostels.
If nature is your passion
Bogota is set amidst the Guadalupe and Monserrate Mountains with the Bogota River running along the western edge, offering up ample opportunity to get out and enjoy nature. Hiking and cycling are popular past times for travellers and locals. A trip to the top of Mount Monserrate via tram offers beautiful city panoramas, or stroll through the Parque Simon Bolivar.
Lodgings close to the mountains is easy to find with a slew of star rated hotels offering excellent value for money. The Hotel Santa Cruz Corferias and Bh Bicentenario are modern hotels with clean, comfortable amenities. The Swiss Hostal Martinik and Hotel Casa Guadalupe both offer spacious, private rooms with even lower costs.
