Explore fashionable Puerto Madero

Buenos Aires' revitalised harbour district is regarded as one of the most successful waterfront restorations in the world. In just a few years, this formerly forgotten neighbourhood has been transformed into an exclusive commercial and tourism precinct.

As well as being home to some of the city's most upmarket hotels, Puerto Madero contains many of its most acclaimed restaurants. It is also home to enough cultural sights to keep urban wanderers occupied. Look out for artist Eduardo Pla's 'Sphere Dream' sculpture and a monument commemorating local Formula One legend, Manuel Fangio.

Cross the ‘Bridge of the Woman’

Known locally as Puente de la Mujer, this shining white bridge is the premier landmark of Puerto Madero and a mandatory photo opportunity for visitors. The bridge was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. He intended its abstract profile to represent two people dancing the tango.

Beyond its aesthetic value, the bridge connects the two sides of the harbour district and rotates 90 degrees to allow tall boats to pass through. The bridge's name continues the tradition of the surrounding streets, which are all named after notable Argentine women. These include celebrated activists and politicians such as Alicia Moreau de Justo, Aimé Painé and Azucena Villaflor.
