Admire the Armengol Sculptures

Located two blocks south of the Delta Bow Valley hotel, the Armengol sculptures are an iconic Calgary decoration. Originally created for Expo ’67, the statues were then purchased and donated to the city, and have stood in their current location ever since.

These larger-than-life sculptures – human forms up to 21-feet tall – were designed by Mario Armengol to represent raceless men and women. The sculptures depict two main emotions of domination and of dependence, signifying Canada's complicated relationship with the United Kingdom.

Laze in Sien Lok Park

Near your hotel is lively, eclectic Chinatown, with its array of fine restaurants, bakeries, souvenir shops and Sien Lok Park. Since 1982 the park has been the focus of a major restoration project. The goal is to preserve the green land amid the bustling area while maintaining its oriental charm.

A 15-tonne Chinese granite sculpture representing Chinese and Canadian history stands at the park's centre. The wall of names is another highlight and is a reminder of the vast Chinese settlement between 1886 and 1947, with each immigrant's name carved into history.

The park is regularly updated to make it more of a celebratory location, which can be enjoyed by the whole community.
