Visit the Museo Maya de Cancun
Opened by the Mexican president in 2012, the Museo Maya de Cancun (Mayan Museum) has become one of the city's most popular tourist attractions. The Museum boasts a wide range of artefacts spread out over three galleries: two housing permanent exhibitions and one for temporary collections.
The first gallery focuses on Mayan history and features skeletons dating back more than 14,000 years. The second examines the diversity of the country and how the culture has evolved in different regions. The third makes most visits unique by providing touring exhibits from Mexico and other countries.
Get up close to sea mammals
The Cancun heat is a big attraction for many visitors to this seaside resort town, but there are times when you may want an indoor activity to seek cooler temperatures. The Aquarium Cancun provides both entertainment and a cool environment. This award-winning attraction is home to a number of sea creatures including seahorses, jellyfish and clown fish.
One of the main features of the Aquarium is the chance to get in the water with the sea mammals – choose from a number of programmes that allow you to swim with dolphins or sea lions. Braver folk may even like to encounter a shark, with the opportunity to feed these predators from the safety of a lowered cage. For those who prefer to get just a little wet, a ringside seat at the region’s only dolphin show may be a better option.
