King Hassan II Mosque
Casablanca may be less travelled than Fez and Rabat, but the city is the cultural and financial capital of Morocco and has a few gems to offer up in the way of tourism. The most popular by far is the King Hassan II Mosque. This ornate mosque is the largest in Morocco with a towering spire of 60 storeys. It is a triumph in detail and design with stunning mosaics, carved wood ceilings and titanium, granite and bronze finishes.
Travellers hoping to see the mosque will easily find accommodation within close proximity. Hotels such as the East West Hotel present great value for money just over a kilometre from the mosque, while the Hyatt Regency Casablanca, Hotel and Spa Le Doge and Gray Boutique Hotel and Spa feature 5-star amenities within walking distance.
Along the Corniche
If you're hoping to escape to the beach while spending some time in Casablanca, then head straight to the Corniche. This beachfront portion of the city is a chance to catch some rays and relax along the sandy shore of the Atlantic. The Boulevard de la Corniche also boasts an eclectic mix of oceanfront cafes and nightclubs.
Resorts line the shores of this section of Casablanca, providing beach goers with a selection of quality accommodation to choose from. The Hotel Club Val d'Anfa is a 4-star luxury resort providing an all-encompassing experience with an outdoor pool, garden and terrace. Pestana Casablanca Suites and Residences is another fantastic choice with reasonable rates and direct access to the beach.
A traditional experience
You may want to consider a trip to the Medina while staying in Casablanca. It is the Old Town of the city, providing a glimpse into the history of this Moroccan destination. It is relatively small and thus easy enough to navigate as you wander the streets and shops. The city walls and 18th-century fort are historic architectural highlights.
As the Medina is very close to the city centre, it is easy to find accommodation located nearby. International chains such as Sofitel and Moevenpick provide 5-star hotel locations within a kilometre to the Medina. If you're looking for a more economic choice, Novotel, Best Western and Ibis offer comfortable mid-range options.
