Culinary delights in Chiang Mai

Thai flavours and food are world famous; the fresh ingredients and vibrant flavours have influenced many cultures and cuisines. In beautiful Chiang Mai, you can take the opportunity to learn the tricks of the cooking trade from the locals.

Chiang Mai is known for its high-quality restaurants and eateries, and many popular Thai dishes originated in the area. Choose from an afternoon, whole-day or week-long cooking course to become immersed in this colourful culture and its food traditions. Well-known cooking schools include Thai Farm, Gap’s Thai Culinary Art, Chiang Mai Thai Cookery and the Baan Thai Cookery schools.

Quiet caves

Merely 30 kilometres east of Chiang Mai is the little-known Muang On cave system. Local legends tell of community members taking refuge in these caves during war times, but the caves today are filled with decorated shrines and an impressive reclining Buddha over nine metres in length.

The caves are open to the public to explore, so you can make the trip and discover the tranquil blue grottos and delicate stalactites and stalagmites. Reaching the entrance to the cave requires a steep climb up a hill and then a descent down stairs. You can combine your trip to the Muang On cave system with a visit to the nearby hot springs.
