The ancient Shandon Bells

The chance to see one of the most historically significant 18th-Century churches in Ireland is just a three-minute walk away from the hotel. St Anne's Church features the Shandon Bells Tower, which dates back to 1722 and allows guests to ring the famous bells on the first floor.

You can also examine the inner workings of the four-faced clock, which was the only one of its kind until Big Ben was built in London. Enjoy 360-degree views over the entire city and be sure to take a moment to appreciate the symbolism of the nearly 300-year-old statue of two poverty-stricken children who were given the opportunity to attend the former school behind the Church.

Stepping inside a historic gaol

Cork City Gaol must be one of the most imposing and memorable sights in the region, and is less than 10 minutes’ drive from the hotel. This building, which once housed notorious 19th-Century prisoners, is now an amazing piece of history that visitors are invited to explore.

You can really garner a sense of history, thanks to wax figures, period furnishings and original graffiti that shows the state of certain prisoners' minds at the time of their incarceration. There’s an eerie night tour every Thursday, during which many still try to hear the ghostly shuffle of inmates’ feet inside the gaol.
