Catch a film at Deckchair Cinema

Spend an evening perched under the stars at Deckchair Cinema, Darwin’s unique outdoor cinema setting. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere, especially with the serene backdrop of Port Darwin. Venture down early to the edge of the harbour to catch the sunset before settling into a screening at dusk. On-site facilities include a licensed kiosk selling beer, soft drinks and locally-made ice-cream. Bringing a picnic is a fun option or you can purchase dinner from vendors every night during the cinema’s April to November showings.

Being completely independent and run by the community-based Darwin Film Society, the cinema screens a diverse range of films not readily available to local audiences, from family favourites to foreign films and international film festivals.

Wander around Parap Markets

Take a 10-minute drive and spend Saturday morning roaming around the bustling delights of Parap Village Markets. Operating since 1982, this colourful market scene is somewhat of an institution and a perfect place to catch up with friends for a bite to eat.

Food lovers are spoilt for choice with an authentic range of cheap Asian street food. There’s everything from fresh Vietnamese, Japanese ramen and Indian curries, to French crepes, juices and boutique coffee. Amongst the food stalls are fruit and vegetable vendors and local craft stalls selling artisan goods.
