Meet Darwin’s own iron chef

When you stay at Mantra Pandanas, you’ll be amongst some of the best food havens in Darwin. In the heart of the hotel is the acclaimed Table Forty Three restaurant. Embracing the philosophy of grassroots cooking, the team at Table Forty Three make their own pate, cure their own meat and churn their own ice-cream, resulting in an exceptional and unique menu.

Nearby, at Darwin Fish Market, there is the opportunity to savour some of the best seafood in the region. Fresh produce is available daily to the general public and if you’re around on a Saturday, you can meet Darwin’s own iron chef, Chris, who cooks fresh seafood dishes using an ordinary clothes iron.

A day by the water’s edge

If catching fish is more your thing, head down to the jetty at Darwin Harbour and choose from a half-day, full-day or extended fishing charter. Experienced crews take you to some of the best fishing locations in the Top End.

If you don’t want to venture too far from the city, just grab some bait from the fish market and throw a line out off the jetty. Darwin’s location on the Arafura Sea means there’s a huge range of quality tropical fish in the water including coral trout, golden snapper, trevally and of course big barramundi. Back on dry land, Darwin’s Waterfront precinct offers alfresco dining, tropical garden walks and a heritage trail documenting the city’s diverse beginnings.
