The historic Book of Kells

The Old Library at Trinity College, located slightly more than one kilometre from the hotel, is home to one of the world’s most famous texts: The Book of Kells. Written by Irish monks in 800 AD, this historic treasure has been on display in Dublin for the past 150 years and is visited by about 500,000 people each year.

The Book has a fascinating history, having once been buried to save it being destroyed by the Vikings. Its 680 pages containing the Latin texts of the Four Gospels were divided into four bound volumes in 1953. Two of the volumes are on display for the public to see.

Luck of the Irish on show

The end of the rainbow is just 10 minutes’ walk from the hotel in the form of the National Leprechaun Museum, which is dedicated to the 1,000-year-old tales of leprechauns and other mythological creatures.

The National Leprechaun Museum is a bit of fun for everyone who finds Irish mythology irresistible, and perhaps a little believable. During a tour, you hear stories close to the heart of Irish culture and enter a world where leprechauns may exist. You can learn about leprechauns in film and popular culture, take a journey to a fairy hill, and experience what it would be like being the size of a leprechaun.
