Dublin’s famed waterways

The River Liffey and Grand Canal have played a major role in Dublin’s history throughout the ages and still host a range of leisure activities today. It doesn't take long to reach the Waterways Ireland Visitors Centre, where you can start out on a walking tour from the Grand Canal Quay.

During the tour, you visit the Grand Canal Dock developed in the 18th Century, explore the mix of industrial and modern architecture, and learn about the Canal’s role in Dublin’s development over the centuries. Inside the Visitors Centre you can catch a barge-driving demonstration, and if you’re keen to explore more, you should pick up maps, guides and information on available activities.
