Sailing away to yesteryear

Walking just 700 metres from the hotel toward the river takes you to the tallest lady in town: the Jeanie Johnston Tall Ship. This replica ship was built from 1993 to 2002 and is based on the original, which dates back to 1847.

It's docked at Custom House Quay and you can climb aboard for a guided tour above and below deck. Visiting allows you to be transported back to the 1850s, when Irish emigrants dreamt of sailing to a new world and freeing themselves from their poverty-stricken existence. You can learn how the original ship was a key element in Irish history, when it transported Irish emigrants to North America.

Have a ball at Croke Park Stadium

Sports fans can kick two goals with a visit to Croke Park Stadium, which hosts Gaelic football matches and is also the location of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) Museum. You can take a stadium tour and embark on a journey through ‘the home of Irish sport’. Tour guides lead you behind the scenes to see areas such as the VIP seating area, team dressing rooms and the 600-metre rooftop walkway that offers amazing city views.

The tour ticket also grants you entry into the GAA Museum, which houses sporting exhibitions and tells the story of Gaelic football, from ancient times through to modern day. The Museum is also designed to entertain the young at heart, with football throwing and an interactive game zone.
