Train tripping

Less than a kilometre away from your hotel is Dunedin’s downtown railway station. Not only is it a beautiful building with a fascinating history, it’s also the beginning of some of the most stunning train journeys in the country.

Trips through Taieri Gorge and down beautiful coastline all begin at this old-world station. Soon you’ll roll into the breathtaking natural scenery that New Zealand is famous for. The journey is geared towards full enjoyment of the beautiful surrounds, with regular stops for photos. A friendly staff member relays history and facts to you while the mountains fly past. If you’ve forgotten to pack a lunch, don’t worry – there’s a convenient on-board café for snacks and drinks throughout the journey.

Choc-a-block at Cadbury

Who can refuse over an hours’ worth of chocolate sampling? Cadbury World, just 750 metres from your front door, is the ideal place for chocoholics young and old.

There are three tour length options, but the whole hog is your best bet. The 75-minute 'Full Tour' offers ultimate bang for buck with endless opportunities to sample, smell and see all of your favourite Cadbury chocolates as they’re being made.

You’ll get up close and personal with Dairy Milk, Old Gold and Dream varieties, and you’ll also witness a ton of chocolate come tumbling down in front of your very eyes. Remember: ‘extensive sampling’ is the key phrase here.
