The haggis challenge

You can immerse yourself in real Scottish culture by indulging in the unique gourmet delight of haggis. Not for the squeamish, haggis is a much celebrated savoury pudding of sheep’s pluck mixed with oatmeal and spices, traditionally cased in stomach lining.

It's very much the national dish of Scotland, so you can find haggis on the menu at most restaurants around the city. If you’re game to try it, you’ll be able to tick this most Scottish experience off your checklist. You might want to wash it all down with a pint.

Rosslyn Chapel

Since being featured in Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, Scotland’s most beautiful and elaborate 15th-Century chapel is now a popular tourist attraction. Just a short drive south of Edinburgh city centre, the striking Rosslyn Chapel is a fascinating place to visit, thanks to its beautiful architecture, widely considered to be the best in Scotland, and its enigmatic links to the Holy Grail.

Rosslyn Chapel is covered in intricate carvings linked to Freemasonry and the Knights Templar, and also pictures of plants from the Americas that predate Columbus’ discovery. The Chapel's fascinating and mysterious illustrations have led to much speculation about its significance in religious history and particularly about whether there are famous religious artefacts buried in its vaults.
