Attractions near the Ballynahinch Castle Hotel

Walk the Twelve Bens loop

The Twelve Bens Mountain Range appeals to hikers and climbers of all abilities, whether you're looking for a simple scenic stroll between the peaks or want to challenge yourself to complete all 12 mountains in one day.

You don't need to be an experienced hiker to wander the picturesque terrain and take in the spectacular views of the countryside and glacial valleys below. The highest peak at Benbaun is a modest 730 metres; however, most ramblers take the shorter loop from Derryclare to Ben Lettery. With easy access from the hotel, these stunning mountains are definitely worth exploring.

Visit historic Kylemore Abbey

Ireland's oldest Benedictine Abbey is just a 30-minute drive from the hotel. Make a day of it and spend some time wandering this Gothic church and surrounding Victorian gardens, while you soak up the historical and spiritual atmosphere. The Abbey's resident nuns offer guided tours around the site, sharing the colourful history of Kylemore, from its founding in 1868 to its present day uses.

Stroll around Connemara Lake for magnificent postcard views of Kylemore Abbey reflected in the water. Before you leave, stop by Mitchell's Cafe and the Teahouse to try traditional recipes made using ingredients grown in the walled garden. If you browse through the gift shops, you may depart with some handmade pottery, knitwear or other unique souvenirs.
