Keeping fit at the Kingfisher Club

Galway's leading health and fitness club is located just one kilometre from the hotel, at the National University of Ireland, and it’s the perfect place to work off the rich Irish food (and those pints of Guinness). Whether you're looking for solo or team exercises, or you want to take part in a yoga or Pilates class, the Kingfisher Club offers a full range of facilities to appease your needs.

You may enjoy working out with the state-of-the-art cardio equipment and weights; joining in on a game of basketball, racquetball or squash in the multi-purpose sports hall; or soothing your muscles in the sauna.

Pass through the Spanish Arch

The most distinctive surviving section of Galway's medieval fortifications is the Spanish Arch. Today it's the entrance to the Galway City Museum, a stopping point along the popular Long Walk and the backdrop to outdoor socialising on the banks of the River Corrib.

Built in 1584 to defend the river quay, the Arch has survived various damages inflicted by nature and humans, and it still stands proudly today as the major landmark of the Spanish Parade. In the 1950s, Galway artist Claire Sheridan added the Madonna of the Quays sculpture to celebrate this local monument.
